Summer is a whole different ball game when it comes to beauty routines. With layers and layers of clothing on, we can all camouflage a multitude of sins in winter but when the layers come off, that’s when it is time to take a good long look and start that summer beauty routine.
First stop : Exfoliation
That dead dull skin has to be all scrubbed off to reveal some nice new skin underneath. A tan will not look even if you have dead skin patches all over you, not to mention the unsightly rough elbows and greying knees. So bring out a good exfoliation clothe, or invest in a nice luxurious body scrub such as Tree Hut Shea Sugar Scrub and start exfoliating!
It’s the same for you face although we do not recommend using a rough clothe. Just a nice fine exfoliating face wash such as Suki Skincare – Face Exfoliate Foaming Cleanser will do the trick. Some face wash are gentle enough to use everyday to keep your skin radiant and youthful looking; or if you have sensitive skin, use one once or twice a week. A nice cool splash will refresh that nice new skin too.
No. 2: Pamper Your Feet
Nothing looks worse than thick hardened and cracked skin on heels when you are wearing summer sandals. It looks terrible and it screams neglect. Get a good pumice stone like Mr. Pumice Pumi Bar or a rough skin remover specified for feet to get that dead skin off. It will take more than once especially if you have not done anything all winter, so start now and do a little everyday.
After you have dried your feet, massage a good quality oil like argan oil or coconut oil onto your feet and put on a pair of 100% cotton socks. This will ensure your feet gets the best of the oil – your ffeet will look baby soft in no time.
Take the opportunity to give yourself a pedicure too. It does not have to be elaborate but well trimmed toe nails and a lick of your favorite nail polish color will instantly make your feet look summer ready. Check out these pretty pastel Spring colors
No.3: Go Sheer
Time to ditch the heavy foundation and go for a light tinted moisturizer or a good light weight BB cream with a spf factor of at least 20. Exfoliation will already get your skin summer ready, which means a light sheer application of a tinted moisturizer will give your skin a nice even look. If you think you need more to cover up eye bags or blemishes, get a good quality concealer and dab that on trouble spots.
Blend with fingers lightly and finish off with a very light dusting of translucent face powder if you want.
No 4: Tame Your Hair
Humidity, sea salt, chlorine, a blazing sun can all wreck havoc on your hair. Short of wearing a hat at all times (which is always a good thing to do), you could always protect your hair with an array of hair products. Aveda does a Protective Hair Veil that is light weight and non oily, as does Keratase.
Or you could use argan or coconut oil and treat it as a mini hair pack by applying all over your hair and leaving it in when you are in the sun. ( We like this Organic Moroccan Argan Oil). The good thing about argan and coconut oil is you can use it for your body as an after sun moisturizer, as well as on your hair before or after being in the sun.
No.5: Go On a Fruit Only Detox
This isn’t for everyone (check with your doctor first) but a fruit only detox even for a day will get you on the path to being bikini ready. Take the opportunity to load up on vitamin A and C with citrus fruits, berries and water rich fruits such as watermelon. Blend several fruits together like pineapple and kiwi with some crushed ice; it will cleanse your system and give you renewed energy and your skin a nice healthy glow.
No.6: Take Time to Chill
Take advantage of long lazy days to read books, snooze and spend time with friends and family. Go on picnics, invite friends over for a barbeque, have an impromptu garden party, build sand castles. Enjoy the simple pleasures of life, take time to look around you and be grateful for all that you have. Being happy and content is probably one of the best beauty secrets there is.
