Eye Make Up Techniques For Different Colored Eyes
For centuries it has been said that the eyes are the windows to your soul so we want to make a mighty good impression when someone looks in.
Getting your eye makeup right is half the battle to looking stunning so below we have compiled some makeup tips for eyes and eye makeup ideas for different colored eyes.
Hope you like it!
Makeup Tips for Eyes Too Close Together
When your eyes are too close together, it gives your face the illusion that it is bigger. That ‘s because the main focal point of your face (the eyes) are too concentrated in the center, and gives the feeling of crowding in the center on a larger canvas.
One celebrity that has this problem is Lucy Liu. Lucy’s eyes are quite close set but looking at her on the red carpet you wouldn’t think so.
That’s because she is clever (or her makeup artist is clever) with her eye makeup tricks and knowing where the concentration of colors should go.
Start with the eye liner. Place more importance and emphasis on the outer corners of the eye, drawing the attention away from the center of the face. Elongating the eyes by doing a ‘cat’s eye’ will also make you eyes look longer away from the center.
When applying eye shadows, start with the lightest color on the inner eye close to the nose and darken the eyes towards the outer edge of the eye.
A good mascara and lash extender applied in abundance at the outer corner of the eye will also add volume and pull attention away from the center of your face.
Last but not least, pluck unwanted hairs in between your eye brows to clear a space and make your eyes look set further apart. Don’t go crazy with the tweezers, but if you have a uni-brow, no amount of eye makeup will pull those eyes apart.

Eye Makeup Ideas for Colored Eyes
Now it is fine to have the makeup tips to make your eyes bigger and not so close together, but what about different colored eyes? Surely the same palette does not work for all colored eyes? And many people have asked “What is the best way to bring out my brown/blue/green/hazel eyes?”
We picked the top three colored eyes and have the following eye makeup tips:
Makeup Tips for Green Eyes
The idea is to bring out the color of your eyes so that they stand out and these colors will do just that. Think warm rather than cool colors.
For summer, you are also looking at lovely lilac colors and soft warm metallic hues.
Try also a softer color as an eye liner. Black always works as a rule but it can be harsh on green eyes. Opt instead for a rich plum or dark purple as an eye liner or a warm brown for the neutral look.
If you cannot live without your black eye liner, try a gray instead.
As for mascara, a nice chocolate brown or even a nice rich plum color will just add that extra mysterious touch to your eyes. A good lash extender will also add volume and length.
Colors to avoid are whites and silver, it does nothing for green eyes.
Makeup Tips for Brown Eyes
There are many different shades of brown eyes from the darkest brown that borders on black to a medium brown and a lighter brown.
The great thing about brown eyes is that it can carry most colors of eye shadow but the general rule for the varying shades of brown from the pros is as follows:
If you have deep brown eyes that can pass for black, ideally you want to go for eye makeup colors in the medium to dark range of colors. Medium brown eyes look good with just about any color, especially green, while light brown eyes look good with colors such as light yellow that bring out the golden flecks.
The rest? well the sky is the limit really with brown eyes and you can experiment until you find something that suits you, your life style and that you are comfortable with.
We have seen some pretty vibrant colors on the runway this season and we found this Rihanna inspired pink and green eye shadow tutorial for brown eyes :
Makeup Tips for Blue Eyes
Blue eyes can be a real sparkler whether they are the lightest sky blue or the blue of an ocean’s depth; and the best colors to bring that out is warm hues of earthly cream, tan and soft brown colors.
Some makeup tips to avoid for blue eyes is to use a blue eye shadow (the same principles apply to green and brown eyes) that matches your own eye color exactly.
Nothing will pop out, in fact your eyes will end up looking dull blending in with the same color around it. So avoid same color eye shadows as your own eye color.
As well as the soft caramel hues, silvers and grays also look stunning with blue eyes. Now this does not mean you cannot use other colors such as purples and greens, but they should really be used as an accent and not as a main color.
Here is where the principle of less is more works best.
Applying False Eyelashes
It wasn’t long ago that applying false eye lashes were reserved only for the likes of Las Vegas show girls, Hollywood stars and transvestites. (note : we have nothing against any of the above :))
Not anymore. From full sets of lashes to just individual strands, applying false eye lashes in one form or another is common place. But it does not mean it is easy, or that you will achieve the results that you desire on your first attempt. It is in fact, quite an art form.
Here are 6 steps to applying false eye lashes courtesy of wikihow
1) Trim the lashes – If the lash is wider than your eye, trim one side of it lash by lash. (Optionally, trim the individual lashes to make them look more natural)
2) Squeeze eyelash glue onto the back of your hand and run the eyelash along it. Blow softly from edge to edge to make the glue a little less runny to apply your lashes.
3) Pick the lashes up with tweezers and bring it as close to your natural lash line as possible.
4) Press from end to end and hold until the glue dries (30 seconds to a minute, or sometimes less depending upon the adhesive). Make sure they don’t come off when you pull your fingers away.
5) Apply mascara while pressing your finger behind the fake lashes. This will bond the false lashes with yours. Curl lashes before applying mascara.
6) Fill any gaps between the false lashes and your natural lash line with eyeliner.
Remember to remove the false eye lashes before you sleep with the remover that comes with the glue. If not, use a warm cloth to loosen the glue or use some petroleum jelly. Store the lashes properly in their own case for further use.
Color Wheels For Best Makeup Tips For Eyes
Last but not least, we have a color wheel to help you with choosing your eye makeup color.
“As complementary colors are directly opposite each other on the color wheel, choosing a shade opposite of your eye color makes both colors appear brighter,” explains celebrity makeup artist Tim Quinn”
Select the color closest to your own eye color (unfortunately it does not have dark colors like dark brown or black) and view the color spectrum right opposite your eye color. This will give you an idea of what color eye shadows you may want to try.
Hope these makeup tips for eyes have given you a hand in choosing the right eye makeup colors as well as providing eye makeup tips that you can apply to look glamorous and gorgeous.
