Looks like Kate Moss is going to have to get some heavy duty insurance…. on her tattoo of two swallows by non other than revered German painter Lucian Freud.
In an interview with Vanity Fair where she dishes on her famous relationship with Johnny Depp and her drug uses, Kate Moss talked about the time in 2002, when the person she most wanted to meet was Lucian Freud. Needless to say, her wish was her command and her friend (and daughter of Lucian) Bella Freud arranged the meeting. (Nice to have friends like that).
”He told me about when he was in the navy, when he was 19 or something, and he used to do all of the tattoos for the sailors. And I said, ‘Oh my God, that’s amazing.’ And he went, ‘I can do you one. What would you like? Would you like creatures of the animal kingdom?’ I mean, it’s an original Freud. I wonder how much a collector would pay for that? A few million?”
Lucian Freud went on to paint Kate in the nude whilst she was pregnant with her daughter. The reported painting sold in 2005 for 3.9 million pounds (which is about US$6.2 million today) to an anonymous bidder.
So there we have it. Whilst others had to pay millions to have a painting by the famous artist on the wall, Ms. Moss has the artistry of the famous painter on her lower back for nothing.
