For many artists, it is enough stress to deal with performance nerves just before a show. That’s why they have a posse of hair stylists and makeup artists to do the job while they quietly fret away.Carrie Underwood's calming makeup routine

Not Carrie Underwood.

This down to earth singer/songwriter finds it a calming and soothing experience to do her own hair and make up before a show, a kind of distraction to the big show ahead. She admits to ‘playing’ with her makeup and trying different colors and ideas and experimenting with her hair.

”You can kind of pile it on – and you need to for things to show up. It’s kind of whatever, you can play. You can do things you wouldn’t really do. You can put glitter on your eyes. Big hair. The bigger, the better. It’s fun. It’s a nice relaxing time, a calm before the storm, if you will.”

The new face of giant skin care brand Olay, Carrie admits to simplicity when it comes to looking after her skin.

“It doesn’t have to be complicated… I don’t have space in my luggage for 20 things that do different things for my skin.”

She did however, admit to making room for ‘fun’ makeup and confesses to being a bit of a shopaholic when it comes to makeup.

But the one advise she did dish out to her fans was listen to your mom. She told People Magazine:

“If I could go back and talk to my 15-year-old self I’d be like, ‘Seriously, listen to your mom… Drink more water, put more sunscreen on, moisturise.’ There are a lot of people like me who wish they did more.”

This naturally beautiful star is also behind the Olay ‘Beauty by Example’ campaign, a charitable set up whereby women can stop by the Olay’s facebook page and sign a declaration that acknowledges their mothers are beautiful both inside and out. Olay in return will donate one ounce of product, up to a million ounces, to Look Good…Feel Better, a charitable organization that helps cancer stricken women to look good, feel better about themselves and get the support they need after treatment.

Says Carrie, ”My mom is a great example to me and my sisters, she’s just the best.” And we couldn’t agree more for all mums around the world.
