Cassandra Bankson, age 19
Growing up in your teen years is not easy. Your body is changing, the opposite sex has suddenly become quite interesting, you are searching to find out who you are and who you want to be, subject choices, career choices and of course the worry about your weight and how you look.
US teen Cassandra Bankson has those problems too. Only she has a bigger problem than most when it came to how she looked. Cassandra has severe acne blemishes that leaves her face marked and scarred, but instead of letting it get her down, she perfected a makeup routine that would hide these blemishes and discoloration, and allow her to have a normal life.
In fact, she looks stunning. With all her full makeup on she looks like a model, which she does do on a part time bases, and she also has a very engaging smile and personality.
I came across this video about six months ago and thought her to be totally brave to do this. She confesses that it took her about a month before she decided to literally bare all about her face. The video went viral and now has more than 8 million views.
‘I filmed the video last November but it took me a month to post it, I thought I was going to get the same hate I got at school over my skin. But I thought if it could help one person, one girl or guy with the same condition, it would be worth it.’
In fact, she looks uncomfortable and a little scared really at the beginning when she showed her makeup less face for the first time.
‘The sad part is it’s a lot better than it used to be. I mean it’s still all over my chest, all over my back, it’s everywhere and you can see it goes down my neck, it’s all to the side, it even got on my ear. It’s gotten a lot better but it’s still really, really bad. It’s my biggest insecurity.’
My heart went out to her.
Acne and especially more severe forms of acne can cause depression. If you feel that your ski condition is getting you down, then consult a dermatologist as soon as you can to treat it. Counseling is also beneficial for those who have withdrawn themselves socially due to their skin ailments. If your child or if you know of any teenager suffering from acne depression, seek professional help immediately.
