The Well Kept Health Secret and
Beauty Benefits of Argan Oil
Why Use Argan Oil?
For centuries, the secret benefits of argan oil stayed mainly in Morocco. The argan tree is native to this wonderful country full of colors and spices, where you get the impression that time has stood still.
The process of extracting the green argan nut and cracking them open by hand were jobs only the Berber women were allowed to do.
Today, small co-operatives have sprung up all over Morocco, giving these women the means to earn a living and have financial freedom.
I first came across argan oil when visiting the south western part of Morocco – Agadir, a few years ago. A local massage with this nut oil had my skin feeling super soft and moisturized and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on more.
Luckily I was able to get more. Deforestation almost destroyed these scarce trees but thanks to the new found demand in the world for argan oil products, the trees have started to be replanted and looked after again.
Argan oil has gained prominence in the last few years for its moisturizing and healing benefits. Used for the skin as well as hair and nails; argan oil, or liquid gold, is gaining a permanent place in many beauty cabinets.
But argan oil was first and foremost an oil that people consumed.
